My dear Varadachari,
Seeing the Beyond
You have written to me that it is beyond you to see the Beyond.
It is not the case. If you get any such abhyasi,
you will be able to know all about it. In my
case I do not understand what is there in me
but I can, by my Master's grace, read the others.
I am observing your condition but up till now
I do not find the words for expression. The
condition no doubt, is almost changeless. I
use the word almost because subtle changes are
taking place and it is not easily discernible.
....
With best wishes,
Yours,
Ram Chandra

My dear Varadachari,
For your knowledge and experience I must in form you that the
divinity is working peculiarly in your system.
Sometimes its working goes in full swing and sometimes
slow as I see in this week. But the influence
it leaves in your system is working all over in
bringing a peculiar condition, which all of us
should aspire. I am studying it so that I may
also work like that but it seems to me difficult
to work like that because only God has the perfect
wisdom.

My dear Varadachari,
4th Ring of Splendour
I am very happy to note that on 18th November at 5:58 P.M.
you stepped into the fourth ring of splendour.
Before it I was feeling a complete purifying
state in you. When I peep into you, I feel solace.
Whenever there is an anxiety I look into you and the anxiety
is over but on the contrary you wrote to me that
you have been much troubled for your progress
and feel it very distressing.
Respect to Appaji and love to children,
Yours,
Ram Chandra

Stages of Progress
I read with pleasure what you have stated in your letter about
your present condition. We proceed from grossness
to subtleness, that too in the long run gives
way. It happens when we begin to arrive at the
reality, so simple. The material force widely
differs from spiritual force. The very essence
of power lies when we go even beyond its limit,
afterwards we reach the spot when the feelings
of both these things are gone. A man reaching
such a height can display force when he forms
the will like that and at other times he seems
to be inactive and that is the powerless force.
May God bless you all with that. You yourself
stated in the letter that bliss seems to be
absent and even knowledge seems to be left behind.
Does it not clearly show that you have gone
beyond both and are acquiring nearness to God?
If this condition at its ripening state falls
in the share even in one of my associates I
will be compelled to presume that my Mission
is complete, although I am sure, and I pray
for it, that I will get a few men who may give
tidings to come to that state. My dear Varadachari,
please remove dissatisfaction and thank God
for it. I also complained to my Master once
or twice when I had only a glimpse of this condition
which you are enjoying at present. He asserted
strongly to remove this idea altogether otherwise
it would be ungratefulness to God.
Now there are no centres or sub-centres to pass through. When
you enter any ring and begin to live in it you
become the part and parcel of the power which
it contains of. So yatra is not there at all.
In your letter you wrote the same words which
I had written to my Master.
....
With best wishes,
Yours affectionately,
Ram Chandra

Sufferings and Aliments
The sufferings and ailments are indispensable for the body
and they help much in the purification process.
A great benefit which we derive from them is
that in that case the watchful eye of the Master
remains on the devotee and that means closer
contact and nearness. Nature is the greatest
healer, so they say. It is a clear proof to
show that the sympathies of the Master are turned
more towards an ailing brother. The world is
full of sorrow and misery. To undergo them is
like undergoing an operation by the Highest
for setting us in proper order. That means an
affectionate motherly treatment. A man may have
reached the highest summit in spirituality but
that does not imply that he has gone beyond
physical afflictions, unpleasant to his senses.
The power of endurance, no doubt, also develops
with it. These things do not touch the deeper
layers of water. One of the commandments of
our Mission directs us to be thankful to God
for all the miseries and troubles. There are
reasons for it. When we are in a thankful mood
we touch the inner core of the being coming
in closer contact with it. As a result every
nerve of our body gets charged with that pious
influence effecting all the uniform state all
over. In this way man so cleverly turns hell
into heaven for himself.

I do not think you have been even for a while, in the state
of disintegration. As a rule you feel yourself
integrated when you are concentrated but when
loose you feel like disintegrated. As a matter
of fact there is only a slight difference of degrees,
due to the touch of external things around you.
Beyond Knowledge
You say that you are unaware of all and live as if nothing
has happened in the shape of experience. There
are three things, Ignorance, Knowledge and Beyond
Knowledge. Beyond Knowledge is in itself a state
of ignorance. The difference between these two
states of ignorance is that the former is far
heavier than the latter because it is associated
with tamas. When this ignorance has been refined
it converts into knowledge. That means that
in knowledge the ignorance is there in the essence
form. When one transcends to the higher state,
described as 'Beyond Knowledge' both of them
are gone.
Unification and Differentiation
Experience you want and everyone tries for it but when differentiation
is over, wherefrom shall the experience come.
In my view it is a higher state and I pray for
you to rise up to it. Since the commencement
of Manifestation, there have been two forces
at work in Nature, the differentiating and the
unifying. Both must co-exist in order to keep
up the creation. If either of them is gone,
that means the end of existence. For understanding's
sake you may call unification as a state of
the inner being while differentiation as a state
of outer being. Even at higher spiritual stages,
this differentiation remains though to a nominal
extent only. For instance, the presence of different
colours may be taken ass differentiation but
when they are all unified, they lose their distinctive
feature and are merged into one-the colourlessness.
To an abhyasi, affected with unification, the
differentiation seems to be a far distant view,
hence troubles and afflictions, though they
are there even then, are much less effective.
But when he is inclined towards differentiation,
the force of the feeling faculty increases,
because he himself makes it powerful by his
concentrated thought-force. The demarcation
line between them can never be non-existent
till the very time of the Final Dissolution.

Freedom and Bondage
I am writing this letter on 15th August, the day on which we
achieved freedom, but the more I think of freedom,
the more I feel in bondage. To my mind the only
difference between the two is that freedom covers
a wider space while bondage the narrower. Thus
freedom itself is a bondage. When we are away
from the idea of both, the freedom and the bondage,
then we are free in real sense. In that case,
the feeling of bondage or freedom is altogether
swept away. I believe the word liberation also
carries a similar sense. I have replied Dr.
Kuppuswamy's letter also.
Inner Vision
I am so happy to note that you have developed the inner vision
to the extent that you have felt my working.
I had directed your mind to take up the direct
course of the farthest extent of human approach
which has appeared to you in a 'tunnel-like'
form. That was a sort of help or push to impel
further movement.
Laya Avastha - Last Phase
Your feeling that you are occupied by the Master is a correct
one. It is a kind of laya avastha of a high
order. When it gets settled down it is a further
step onwards. When the feeling of the body,
buddhi or soul is all gone and you are not able
to know whether it is yours or mine, even though
you meditate to understand it, then that is
a very high state. The last phase of laya avastha
comes when, while speaking the word, 'I' refers
to none, neither to self nor Master nor God,
even though you force yourself to know it. Having
gone so far, when that which comes next, is
also dissolved and negativated then that is
the state of Realisation in the true sense.
With best wishes,
Yours,
Ram Chandra

My dear Varadachari,
....
The journey to Calcutta is very tedious, but I undertake it
with a view to have personal contact with Mr.
Medayil whom I have never seen so far. It is rather
touching to be faced with taunts and rebukes in
place of sympathy and consolation for the sad
demise of Padmini. Anyhow you have to put up with
them under such cases, though in the end they
will finally prove to be to their own disadvantage
and worry. Your tolerance will surely count much
in this respect... ...

My dear Varadachari,
... ... I also went to the samadhi of Swami Rama Krishna and
meditated there for about two minutes. I found
a good effect on the heart. This shows that his
heart-centre was exciting and it is not with him
alone but also with most of the other saints that
the chakra prominent in him displays its effect
strongly. My Master's technique in this respect
is but unique in so much as at the last pitch
the Master's help unifies all the chakras, I mean
everything being charged with divine influence
becomes equalised.

.... Every work is divine if one remains connected deeply with God while doing his duty.
Reading the Condition of others
I feel you have amply moved towards Negation. The monotony
you feel will go away after some time. Please
take care of your health. Either start morning
walk before breakfast or for an alternative
practice some asanas but I do not recommend
shirsasan. I do not agree with your views regarding
the reading of others condition. The fallacy
which sometimes comes in is due to the fact
that when one exerts one's self with the force
of will to read the condition of others he leaves
no room for the feelings and conditions of the
other to enter in him. In other words you block
the way for its in-coming. The proper method
would be exercise yourself very mildly (but
with concentration of course) to read the condition
of others. In this way his thoughts and feelings
will be entering your super-consciousness.

Yours,
Ram Chandra

Rebuke
Your letter of 12th November, 1962 was a bit disappointing
to me. The thoughts you complain about are never
so serious as you take them to be unless you
yourself make them so by giving your attention
to them. It is only on account of your undue
attention to them that they become strong and
forceful. Your dissatisfaction about the correct
reading of the abhyasi's condition also seems
to have no reasonable basis. Some time ago I
made it sufficiently clear to you that your
reading of the abhyasis' condition was cent
per cent correct and this was verified by the
statements of the abhyasis also. Now I again
quote below a passage from Mr. Viraraghavan's
recent letter:-
"When Dr. Varadachari visited us last Sunday in connection
with the death of my father-in-law, I was able
to spend with him nearly two days and had a feeling
that I had regained my lost treasure. I found
that a good amount of transmission had taken place
in me at my mental level."
Warning against doubts and despondency
The fact is that the power possessed by a man can be utilised
both ways i.e., for his advantage and for his
disadvantage. In the spiritual field it is absolutely
essential that this power must not be allowed
to be overshadowed by feelings of doubt or despondency
about one's own capabilities. Because of my
own responsibility towards my associate, I must
frankly say that if you persist and get accustomed
to it, you will thereby be supplying nourishment
to 'thoughts' making them stronger still. I
shall thereby be pulled into serious difficulties
for removing the effect thereof. It may not
be so difficult for me in case of a man of ordinary
approach but for one of your standing who to
apply my will to that higher most extent. So
please do your best to save me this unnecessary
hard labour. Once during my course of abhyas
I had written to my Master that my present condition
I like to weep, and for this he had seriously
admonished me.
You know and feel that you are rendering excellent service
to the abhyasis which each of them fully acknowledges
and appreciates. Now compare it with your own
reaction to it. As a matter of fact when one attains
a highly subtle state, he passes on the same subtlest
force to others. Which is most often undiscernable
to himself. My condition is almost similar when
I transmit to others. In a way I am thus trying
to bring you closer to my own, whereas you (may
I not conclude so) seem to be trying to get more
distant away.
I have written all this to bring home to your mind that with
due regard to your present condition, your responsibility
towards self, the Mission and the humanity in
general is very great, though I am definitely
sure that you are up to it with spirit, enthusiasm
and devotion. I wish you to be blessed with power
and capacity for the accomplishment of the great
task entrusted to you. May your efforts be crowned
with success. Amen.
With best wishes,
Yours,
Ram Chandra
